Re: Just got my trans am,need old muscle car sound, but how?

I was simply going to write "Headers and Glasspacks or straight pipes?" till I looked at your profile. You can't do anything fun in California.(except for that porn thing.. )..EPA would probably fine you for thinking about modin' it...

Re: Just got my trans am,need old muscle car sound, but how?

i'm sure ppl mod cars in california. look at all these shows that are based out of cali. overhaul is one.

What yr car and what engine? if you have a 83-92 trans am get your self a flowmaster american thunder catback exhaust, they sound the best. after that you can get some headers and a y pipe. For the most part this will apply to any car.

Re: Just got my trans am,need old muscle car sound, but how?

I was kidding. I changed the smilie for ya.

I have heard nightmare storys about modded vehicles in California though.

One was of a Suburban. It had headers that were modified to fit and work with its other mods.(I want to say one of the primarys were bent in to clear an airbag suspension? Dont remember) The guy traded it in, the next owner took it to the emissions place. They passed it every time for around three years. The second owner traded it. The third owner took it to the emissions place, they failed it.(caught the mod) Third owner goes back on the dealer, dealer goes back to second owner. Second owner goes back to the second dealer. They try to get first owner, but he checked the box saying it was modified for off road use only. Second dealer sold as modified but compliant with CARB regs. Second dealer gets the fines, fees etc. (I want to say it was in the tens of thousands, but that was a long time ago)

Re: Just got my trans am,need old muscle car sound, but how?

i'm glad the second dealer got bent over. I know that california has stricter emissions regulations, but i just can't imagine the cops being so anal about the stuff. i mean here in ny i've had tickets for loud illegal exhaust, and i just pay the fine and keep driving it.

Re: Just got my trans am,need old muscle car sound, but how?

pre 83- long tube headers to 3" piping, flowmaster 2 chamber race muffler dumping down.

83-92- 1 5/8 longtubes , 3" mid pipe, flowmaster american thunder catback.

93-02- slp long tube headers, slp mid pipe, slp loud mouth catback.

Best sounding exhausts i've heard on any trans am.

Re: Just got my trans am,need old muscle car sound, but how?

i disagree, i have personally found slp to have great products with great results. my cousin had full slp exhaust on his 02 firehawk and it was freakin sweet sounding and it deffinately gave him some good power. My best friends dad has slp headers on his new GTO LS2 and he likes it, i have the slp 1 3/4 headers and Y pipe and it's deffinately an improvment over the shitty headman long tubes i had. I mean there are better products out there like kooks, and hooker, but slp isn't bad by any means.

i've had nothing but good experiences with slp. sometimes shit happens with many different products, maybe your guys situation was just a fluke.

Re: Just got my trans am,need old muscle car sound, but how?

My friend's 95 LT1 is stock except for a hollow kitty and a Flowmaster 80 series muffler, and it sounds mean when he gets on it. It doesn't have that muscle car cammed lope sound though.
