1998 cluster replacement

I have a 98 intrigue that had a bad cluster. I already replaced the cluster with a junk yard part that was another 98 cluster to find out that the millage is stored in the cluster itself. Now I lost 100k miles on my car.

Since I don't want to go to jail, I am looking at replacing the cluster again with another one that has almost the same amount of miles. I'm pretty sure that a 2000-2002 intrigue cluster will not work with my car, but will a 1999 cluster work if it was a 3.8 engine?

I am looking at a 1999 cluster taken out of a 99 intrigue with a 3.8 engine and was wondering if that will work with my vehicle. I'm looking for anyone who has experience with this so I don't waste my money buying something that won't work in my vehicle.

thanks for your help!

Re: 1998 cluster replacement

I bet GM can just reset the mileage on your new cluster. Bring the old one in to verify the mileage.

Or just write the old mileage down and just add.

Re: 1998 cluster replacement

Thanks for your reply. I talked to a GM dealer and they won't touch it with a 10 ft. pole because it wasn't a new part from GM. Also, I thew away the old cluster a long time ago. So my first question still stands for anyone that can answer. Thanks!
