My son drives my Jeep Cherokee Sport 4x4 and he is 19 so I'm keeping an open mind there's something to that fact but recently it has lost the power I'm so used to. I can drive it on the interstate and set the cruise control and no matter what load is put on the engine it won't go above 3000 RPM. When climbing an incline the transmition shifts into passing gear with no problem but even with the pedal pressed completely to the floor, it won't rev above 3000 RPM. If anyone has an idea, please help. We've replaced the fuel pump, cleaned the injectors, checked the plugs, and all seems ok. As I said it just started out of the blue but when he was driving it.

What year/model/mileage/transmission?

My first guess is that you may have some blockage in the exhaust...especially if higher mileage. If you put your hand over the exhaust while it's running, does it seem to come out forcefully? How about if someone races the engine while it's not moving...more forcefully?

What year/model/mileage/transmission?

It is a 1997 Cherokee Sport, 4.0 automatic 4x4 with about 198,000 miles. I will check the exhaust tomorrow. Thank you very much for your help.
