Transmission slippage maybe? Does the problem occur right after you've shifted into a higher gear, or does it occur several seconds after shifting into a new gear under a moderate to heavy throttle load?

okay so i have a 1994 altima... same engine as the 1997 model and i had the exact same problem, when i would accelerate it would act as though it were hesitating... ect. So what i did was change the fuel filter because it hadn't been changed in ages and whala... problem fixed! One other thing i recomend is not buying cheap gas at cheap gas stations (seven eleven, loves, ect.)
the good ones are phillips 66/conoco and bp and shell but right after you do the fuel filter put some primium fuel in it and give it a few miles to run through the engine. You might want to also check if your distributer has oil and or it needs a new o ring. hope it works for you and don't be afraid if u got any questions
