I have a 2005 Equinox LT AWD and lately I have noticed that when cutting the wheel, there seems to be a strange noise - almost like the power steering pump is failing. It still steers easily, but the noise seems to be louder after the vehicle warms up. I wanted to check the power steering fluid, but I can't even find the resevoir. Does this problem sound familiar? Can somebody help.
Thanks
If the noise is squeaky one, replace both of your front struts. I just replace both of my wife's front struts. They where making squeaky noise while turning; upon inspecting them, they were leaking fluid.
I replaced both struts with Monroe for $135 from rockauto.
This whinning you hear is the ELECTRIC power steering assist. These vehicles have electric power steering not hydraulic. Mine has done the same thing for a couple of years now.
my daughters 2005 ls was making a noise when you turned the wheel and when you looked under the fender at it and had someone turn the wheel you could see the coil spring move. We had guy pull the struts and grease the top bearing or whatever it is up there. And the noise went away. Hope that helps. Jack T.
