Struts - easy or difficult ??

I have a '01 Prism and my daughter has a '02 Prism. Both will be needing struts soon. Has anyone replaced these themselves ???? How easy ??? or should I bow to the repair shops and pay them for all that LABOR ???

Re: Struts - easy or difficult ??

if you buy the replacement struts with the springs not bad hard. but if you just get struts then you have to have a spring compressor [some auto parts stores like autozone will loan these] and take the springs off your old ones and put on the new ones.figure most of a saturday ,if it is your first time doing struts.and be careful with the spring compressor and spring because the spring will knock the **** out of you. some struts on some models require you to take the brake line loose others do not. my '92 toyota i had to remove the brake line and reattach it. while your at autozone getting the compressor pick up a repair manual if you don't have one .i think one manual will cover both years
