'95 F-150 driver's door handle broken...won't open

A friend of mine from work has a 1995 F-150. Yesterday, her husband managed to break the interior door handle off on the driver's side. The door won't open from the outside either. I'm guessing that a cable or something else also broke with the door handle. Anyone else had this happen to them? Any ideas on how to fix this and what parts will need to be replaced? I'm trying to help her do the research because her husband doesn't know much about fixing cars, but I don't know much about Fords. Any insight you can offer will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That is going to be difficult. Removing the door panel with the door closed will have to be done to manually get to the latch and if I were doing it at my shop, the seat would come out so I got room to rumble.

Try and slim-jim the door to open it first

Ok, she now tells me that it will open from the outside. It's just not very easy to do. Any thoughts now and what needs to be done? Thanks again.

Yeah, open the door and remove the door panel and see what's going on with the latch or cable. Maybe it just needs a real good lube!

Once you have removed interior panel observe the operation of the handle to latch linking mechanism. This should tell you what has gone wrong.
