I owned a 1999 323i automatic, and i change the transmicion oil and the fluid that i used it's the dextron 6, and you need about 6 quarts, or you can get the fluid at the dealer, but it's going to cost you around $ 28.00 a quart,

my 93 and 94 e36's require only Dextron 3 and quite a bit at that. Just as a reminder, the e36 needs to have the engine running, in park, when you check the fluid level at the driverside of the transmission just like would on a manual trans. Not many "quicky-lubes" know this. You'll have to babysit when you have it done. I had to teach the entire crew at Walmart one day.
