Hi everybody,
One friend of mine has a problem with his Camry ('94, 2.2L)
There is no spark coming from the coil. The coil gets +12V when the engine is cranking, but there is no spark. We changed the old coil with a new one and still no spark. Old coil had 3kohmi resistance between the high voltage outlet and the (-) or (+) screw, and the new one had 13kohmi. Both coils had the same resistance (a few ohms) between the (+) and (-) screws.
We also took the distributor cap off and verify the existence of high voltage directly at the coil...Nothing!
Does anybody have any ideea of what can cause this lack of spark?
Thanks for any hepl!

Well, the primary is getting the proper voltage. The resistance between the + and - terminals (primary coil) should be between 0.4 and 0.6 ohms and between the + and high tension lead (secondary coil) between 9 kohms and 15 kohms.

Sounds like the primary resistance is too high, but double check it to be sure. I have seen instances in here of new a/m coils being bad...but generally not the norm.

Just a hunch here. If the coil checks out OK, pull the rotor off the distributor shaft and check the underside for cracks. It's possible to have a crack there and have it short itself to ground on the metal of the distributor shaft itself. This happened to me one time on an old VW beetle. Took me a while to figure it out. This will only take a minute to check when the distributor cap is already off.

Thank you for your thoughts!
I couldn't go there today and I just spoke with the guy at the phone in the evening. He bought a new distributor and still didn't have spark.
So, assuming all the cables are ok, I guess it must be either the ignition module or the computer itself.

You might look inside of your distributor cap and see if the center contact which is spring loaded is in good condition. I had one that was completely burned off and, and shut the car off and would not start and had no spark.Changed the cap and rotor bug and car ran fine. Other than the computer, If it was my car, I would have to look at seriously changing the igniter. I have had no luck finding anyone who can tell me of a tester that will check an igniter to see if its good or not. Maybe someone on here can tell you of one that would work. A new igniter at Autozone is 156 dollars. If your igniter has failed then you will not have any fire to your plugs. Just a pricey gamble because they rarely fail. At least that was what the mechanic at the Toyota dealership told me.

My friend tried a new ignitor and another computer (old). Nothing showed results! As the last resort we are going to tow it to a garage these days. Maybe they know better...
Thank you everybody for your help!
