1989 Beretta starts but then dies about 5 minutes later, starts back up but putts....

So the car will start but after about 5 minutes of stalls, i can start it by punching the gas a few times but then it idles high and putts quite a bit with black smoke... could this be the Map Sensor?

Could be a lot of things. Check your fuel pump pressure and make sure your tempurature sender is connected. Get a scan tool and read the trouble codes.
