Ranger cpu

I am working on a project to convert a truck to run on wood gas (if you have not looked into it, it is essentially carbon monoxide that you get by burning wood without enough oxygen) and have been offered a 96 ranger for 500 dollars. this is an awsome price i think but i am concerned about what the computer will tell the engine to do if i change over to wood gas. i had hoped to work with an older, carburated engine with a distributor so that i could advance the timing and not worry about the sensors near the fuel injectors.

basically what i am looking for is information on what sort of feedback the computer will send to the engine if the sensors pick up a change in the intake mix. if there is a way to control this with, say, a laptop for a reasonably low price i would also be interrested.

Re: Ranger cpu

You're going to have CEL indications all over. PCMs have pre-set input parameters. Wood gas may cause things to go out of range. Try it on a non-electronic carburated vehicle.
