1996 legacy sedan

Just purchased my first car on ebay. I'm not familiar with Subaru, but I have heard alot of good things about them. The owner said it needed nothing. Well it needs something. There is a constant clunk noise even at low speeds in the drivetrain and it's coming from the rear. I checked the tire sizes and they match in size but are all different brands with different wear on them. If I put all new tires on it will it solve the problem? If not what else could it be?

Put new tires on ASAP. Different tires with different wear will toast the center diff, and that's not cheap to replace.

Replace the tires and if it still clunks, take it to a dealership for diagnosis.

Re: 1996 legacy sedan

Thanks for the response. I am ordering new tires. Hopefully it fixes it but chances are the idiot who owned the car before me did drive it like this so I'll have to see what happens.
Thanks again,
John
