Have your battery checked anyway. It is always the most likely cause of a starting problem. Being able to power your headlights is not a good test of battery function.
Check both ends of both cables and make sure they are tight and clean. If they feel tight to you, that doesn't mean they are making a good connection. Take a wrench and tighten them to make sure they are a solid connection with the terminals.
Check the cables for corrosion near the ends.
It can be your starter also. Toyota starters are known to have problems with the starter solenoid contacts. This is your last resort, however. The starter on the 4Runner is a pain to remove and replace.
