Anyone have any experience with Water Wetter? It claims to lower engine operating temperature by as much as 30 degrees F. I'd like to see a scientific report regarding the effectiveness of this product. In the first place, if the engine cooling system works as it should, why try lowering the engine operating temperature. From what I know the engine operates efficiently at around 200-210 degrees F. The thermostat opens at 195F. A small bottle of Redline Water Wetter is around $7.50 and I understand it smells awful. Some people use this stuff to compensate for an overheating engine caused by a malfunctioning cooling system or other engine problems.

sounds like a good way to possibly hurt an engine by running it cooler than it was designed to run

Sounds like a waste of money to me. If the temperature drops, the thermostat will close to raise the temperature to normal operating temperature.

Make 'em Last

There are several good discussions on this topic at "BOB IS THE OIL GUY" forum - I searched for "Water Wetter". My radiator repairman has spent years trying to teach me not to put ANYTHING ELSE in the 50/50 coolant & water mixture. He claims tap water is fine, but I always use distilled.
