What color should I paint my intake/valve covers ??
I am getting ready to remove my lower intake on my Green 99 GA GT to replace the lifters.
I figured while its apart I'd also paint my intake and valve covers, having a hard time choosing what color(s)....
Plus I'm installing headers in the next week or so, they are black but I'm painting them white.
I was thinking either blue or white for the intake/VC, what do you all think ?

I'd go with green. White would be a PITA to keep up with to keep it clean.

Re: What color should I paint my intake/valve covers ??
yeah green is rare I would need to find green silicone sleaves for my CAI but thats no biggie.
White isnt realy to hard to keep clean, the SE's yello has held up realy well with regular cleaning.
I am just using caliper paint, I have several colors to mix and match with. I could go purple!

Re: What color should I paint my intake/valve covers ??
I personally like the look of "GM orange" for the block/intake/heads and black valve covers.
There is an engine enamel that withstands something like 2,000 degrees... just a thought, possibly better than caliper paint. I don't think it costs much more than spray paint either.

Re: What color should I paint my intake/valve covers ??
I posted a reply to this yesterday and its gone...
Yeah it's hard to mix colors with a spray can.
Thats why I was using caliper paint for the intake and valve covers, so I can mix the shade I need.
Plus I have several opened cans of different colors that need used before it evaporates or goes bad.
Caliper paint is good for up to 500 deg, the intake and valve covers dont get that hot.
I'm going to use that VHT 2000 deg stuff for my headers though. It does work good, I tried it on my manifold on the GT.

Thanks for the well wishes, but Why is that funny ?
It's not like its my first time or anything. lol
Using VHT paint, which is a high heat ceramic paint, is not that difficult and worked great in my previous projects.
See this for VHT info

ps- the headers come painted black.

Re: What color should I paint my intake/valve covers ??
Well my headers finally got here!
They are not even painted, straight greasy metal.
That might work out to my advantage, druel if you must.
They are a little different then tne SE's RSM headers, but just as nice if not better.

Re: What color should I paint my intake/valve covers ??
I spent 3-4 hrs tonight cleaning them up, sanding some rough stuff off(weld splater). Only had time for the front one, the rear and Cat will take a little more work.....
I'm leaning toward green for the intake/VC and white still for the headers...

Re: What color should I paint my intake/valve covers ??
yeah im drooling over here pretty bad too along with my wetted pants lol, but xero man you should get them powdercoated like a chrome color im talking about your valve covers and manifolds, i would also go with chrome on the headers as well or a metallic polish to it, but other than that great headers man. Those the ones from S&S? what was your total on them? and good luck with the install im sure you'll conquer it like nothing.

Re: What color should I paint my intake/valve covers ??
Silers a little plain.
I am going with the green and try and match the body color the best I can for the intake(U&L) and valve covers. One thing I found out was these ceramic paints change color a little(darken) over time, as it cures.
I've looked localy to find some of that VHT 2200 deg paint but no where is carrying it yet, just the 1200 deg and in black only. They couldnt even order what I needed so looks like an online order...... i hate that..
The only reason I am thinking white for the headers is to find leaks easy & quickly.

Re: What color should I paint my intake/valve covers ??
I had caliper paint custom mixed a few years back, painted the calipers on a monte carlo. Looked good when clean, but they showed brake dust really fast.

When calipers are painted they seem to clean up a lot easier though.

Re: What color should I paint my intake/valve covers ??
Just to update, I talked to my local Napa and they hooked me up !
They had the Duplicolor white VHT 1200 deg in stock, had to order the 1200 primer, and 3 cans of VHT 500 deg racing green for the LI & UI, yes I'm painting both.
Thinking about red calipers too..
I'm hoping this will reduce the temps under the hood, if it does I just might pull the UI off the SE and paint them too.
It's not just about looking pretty guys, it's about heat control.
