Hood hood ornament removal

A guy I play poker with owns a 2000 benz, but over the winter, he broke the hood ornament off. I want to replace it for him, but i'm not sure how to go about getting it off? It looks like it held on by some type of spring or something, does anyone know how to get this off without doing any damage? Thanks
