Will new 5.3L fit in 2000 GP
Since, the new SS Impala, a FWD, has a 5.3L V8, I have the question of will that engine fit into the 97-03 Grand Prix? I can't believe nobody else has wondered this, but I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere. If you have a idea please inform me.

Re: Will new 5.3L fit in 2000 GP
Welcome to AF.
You think it might be because GM already introduced that engine in the latest generation '05-'08 Grand Prix? Called the GXP. Why waste all that money, time and effort converting a '97-'03 model which IMO would be an exercise in futility.

I hate the new grand prixs. Personally, they should have made the GTO body's the new 04Gp and come up with something totally new for the GTO. Plus I love my 2000 GP. I was just wondering.

What model GP do you have?
Can't say I blame you on that comment. I think GM is a step ahead of us by canning the Grand Prix and GTO and introducing the new G8GT. See link below.

Re: Will new 5.3L fit in 2000 GP

Yeah I like the G8's. They had a protype for the 97-03 body that was a RWD V8 but they never went to production. The GP I got is a GT with Coil packs, plugs, wires, K&N, catback, Eibach springs, KYB struts, chrome side lenses, custom grill, Baer 13" slotted and drilled rotors, the under body's and a $3000 stereo. I think it is a beautiful car, but it seems there is just a lot of work to do before it gets to level I want it running at. Thats why if I could just drop a 300hp engine in, I thought it would help me skip some steps to get where I want to be

Re: Will new 5.3L fit in 2000 GP
to answer your question...yes, it can be done. do I know HOW to do it?? no..
i saw a '97 Grand Prix "GXP" for sale on E-bay about a month ago. it had the Northstar 5.3 litre stuffed under the hood, and SOMEHOW they got a 6 speed manual tranny hooked up to it.
the car is sold now, it sold for $10500 like 3 days after being posted.

Re: Will new 5.3L fit in 2000 GP
Most likely the one you are referring to it is this one at the link below. Supposedly one of a kind. Prototype Northstar with 600 hp. Actually it was a 5 speed and was advertised (asking) for $25,000. I seriously doubt it actually sold for a high bid of $10.5K. So another story about how some idiot wastes all that time, energy, effort and $$$ big buck money and then puts it up on EBay to get rid of it. All for what and what are the underlying reasons?

IMO the OP is better off modding his GT the traditional way. Checkout our friends at Milzy (Mike) who is also converting "W" bodies to 6 speed manual.

Re: Will new 5.3L fit in 2000 GP
thats it! thanks BNaylor. i agree, not worth the time and effort. just build the GT.
I've personally rode in GP's that have almost 500 WHP and it still has the 3800 in it. of course it does drop the reliablility down a little bit
i guess its the OP's decision.

That is true and it depends on how deep his pockets are. If he can dump $3K into a rolling jukebox then I'm quite sure he can afford engine/drivetrain mods.
From what I can see you did alright with your GT and top swap, etc. so why don't you explain what his possibilities are. I'm just not a fan of exotic engine swaps from the practicality aspect.
However, the new G8GT is sure looking good but that is a different matter.

Re: Will new 5.3L fit in 2000 GP
HA HA, that northstar GXP has to have a prop to hold the hood open, and it doesnt even have a sunroof (at least it doesnt from what I can see).
I would way rather stick with stock, and leave it alone. I personally like the look of my GTP over that one anyday.
Plus I think the 3800 is way more reliable and way easier to work on than that stupid northstar.

Re: Will new 5.3L fit in 2000 GP
plus personally, i own both a grand prix GTP, and an '06 Chevy Impala SS with the 5.3 litre.
my GTP walks all over this car off the line. its just when you reach top end...
really man, i would just stick w/ the 3800 that you got in your GT. if ya wanna do a top swap, you can get a whole kit here for $1230 +S&H. i did it on my SE...just gonna warn you, its not the easiest thing to do
