99 S-10 Pickup, Wipers stopped working

About a month ago my pickup stopped running; drove it to a friend's house, parked, and then when I went to leave it refused to start. At the time I thought it was the starter as it didn't sound like a dead battery--none of the traditional "clicking" you would hear. Imagine my surprise when my mechanic--after having it towed of course--informed me that it was just a bad battery. He replaced the battery and everything was fine.

Cut to a few days later. The truck was driven several hundred miles, in the rain, and the wipers worked fine. The next morning, I start the truck, and my rear driver's side tail light is blown and the wipers won't work.

I've checked the fuse and it's not that. I'm stymied about what else it could be. Any suggestions?

On the tail light check bulb.

On the wipers get out the volt/ohm meter and check for power to motor and switch operation.
If intermendent wipers they have a lot of pulse board problems.
Whack the wiper motor and wiggle wiper blade arms.
If they come to life usually the pulse board problem.
Can be replaced or the broken solder joint soldered.

Well I wasn't worried about that bulb in the back, haha, just seemed strange that after we had a battery replaced some of our electrical went nuts. I'll try the voltometer when I get home, and I have a rubber mallet with my name on it for the motor.

So I have finally pulled the pulse board. It looks pristine, no burns, breaks, cracks, or anything else that I can see. What else may it be, then?

Did you check for power to the motor and switch operation.
The solder cracks are hard to spot.
If you have poer to wiper motor and the switch is working I wold go a new pulse board.

Checked for spark at the plug end of the wire that connects to the pulse board--got it. Actually went out and purchased a new pulse board to see if it would make the diff--it didn't. I can feel stuff moving around inside but it doesn't actually turn the motor. Bad motor then, you think?

Meaning that, I hold the motor assembly in my hand, and i can feel clicking from behind the plastic faceplate, when the wipers are initiated and then turned off from the inside. But nothing moves visibly on the outside.

If the motor runs and turns on and off with the switch.
But does not move the shatf/arm coming out of motor to blades then the gears inside motor are bad/striped.
Make sure arm has not come lose from the wiper motor shaft.

I would get a rebuilt wiper motor and try it.
Good Luck
Get us know how it goes.

Re: 99 S-10 Pickup, Wipers stopped working

Well the thing is, I actually took the motor housing off, just out of curiosity, to see if there were any metal shavings or other indications of a stripped motor. If I spin it manually, the gears DO turn, so they're not stripped. And it wasn't that the wiper blade was loose either, of course that was the first thing we checked; it simply doesn't move.

Something has to be broke or stripped.
Try turning the shaft by hand that comes out of motor.
If it spins free then it is broke.
I would say it is about time for another motor.
Good Luck and let us know how it goes.
