2000 sportage fuel gauge problem

The low fuel light is on and fuel gauge shows full all of the time, regardless of how much fuel is in the tank. Can anyone point me in a direction for repair...Fuses? Relays? something shorted?

Re: 2000 sportage fuel gauge problem

Low fuel light????? I have a 2000 and no low fuel light... (my owners manual says there is one though, first time today I see that... between brake and door alarms...but never saw or looked for it in the car...)...and the schematic diagram show the icon, but does not show any hard wiring for that....

FOr the gauge, open cover under right rear seat and disconnect fuel unit plug and connect blue wire to ground; with key ON, this should make the gauge read empty. If it does, the sender is shot or connector is corroded. report findings.

..and , probably, the lack of a ground for the gauge would cause an upset in the "comparator" and trig the LOW alarm light......which would then be internally wired to the gauge circuit, but not shown as hard wiring on the diagram...

...I will check again on mine....may be the bulb is shot...in fact I did whine about the lack of such a feature..but...never checked: you made me have second thoughts....
edit...And I did check..I do have a blank between BRAKE and DOOR..but no light check at KEY ON...so the bulb was probably shot when I bought it or I do not remember....will not go for it...at least, not now...
...forums are two-way avenues....
