96 Catalytic Converter and speed problems?

I need to replace catalytic converter in 96 LT Blazer. The heat shield is good. I hit the Catalytic converter and something inside rattles. Also when runnin it rattles horribly.

NOW THE REAL PROBLEM: Top speed is only 65 mph. When I accelerate the RPM increases but car doesn't go any faster. There is no slipage in trans. It's like the car loses power but rpm is good. Is this related to catalytic converter????

Also ocassional rpm surge while idle. Any help from qualified person greatly appreciated.

Check engine light doesn't come on....

The reason I ask is that I don't want to get too deep in repairs trying to diagnose.

Regards,

Mike B

Re: 96 Catalytic Converter and speed problems?

You may have insufficient fuel pressure getting to your fuel injection and/or a stopped up cat converter.

Here's where you check the fuel pressure. You should see 60psi or greater and it hold it a coupla minutes after shutting the motor off.

Has the fuel filter been changed?
