Is mine inferior to a GTP???

So I recently traded in my black fully loaded '92 olds toronado trofeo for a black 2000 grand prix gt coupe, 80k w/ leather(got a fair deal). Now I'm thinking maybe I should've waited until I found one just like it but a fully loaded mint GTP. Should i be kicking myself over this or should I just be happy with the plain ol gt? Also, is there a big difference between a regular gt like mine and stock GTP with no mods?? Since i heard the GTP comes with a much better trans and I already had to have the pressure control solenid replaced I'm wondering about all this now. Should I keep the one I have or hurry up and sell it so I can still get a mint GTP coupe w/ low miles??? Advice anyone?

Re: Is mine inferior to a GTP???

There is nothing wrong with a GT model Grand Prix. The 3.8 normally aspirated engine does have less power than the GTP but it is a reliable engine.
One problem you may run into are leaking lower intake manifold gaskets but GM corrected most of the issues with these gaskets in a prior year. As for the transmission the 4t65E HD transmission isn't a better transmission it is just a beafier transmission to handle the additional power. The PCS problem can hit the GTP transmission just as easily as the one in your car. I don't think you went wrong with your purchase and you shouldn't be disappointed with it.

One advantage to the Gt is that it takes any gasoline instead of premium for the GTP. I bought a GTP and kind of kicking myself for not just getting a GT.

Re: Is mine inferior to a GTP???

I have a 2002 GP GT and its great. My car is already fast and i cant imagine how fast it would be with a supercharger. I got a GT because u can put regular gas in it. not like the GTP. and its better than the SE model.

Re: Is mine inferior to a GTP???

I thought putting Premium gas would be a problem when I started filling up. But the price difference is probably 2 or 3 dollars, well worth it though.

Re: Is mine inferior to a GTP???

the GT/L36 has a shorter gearing at 3.29s and has a better go from a stop compared to a GTP with 2.93 gears. for performance parts you have options depending on how big your wallet is. u can do your research and go from there. here are some ways to make your GT quick:
-a top swap, swapping the items from the GT with GTP such as the heads, lower intake manifold, intake and a few other parts
-bolt-on mods such a higher ratio rockers
-an aftermarket cam
-an aftermarket cam and a CSC(centrifugal supercharger)
-turbo

again, do your research and you'll be fine ;-)

haha...sounds much easier than it really is, believe me. but the nice thing about doing a top swap on a GT (SE in my case) is that the L36 has higher compression, so it creates more power at a lower boost, therefor not needing a smaller pulley...
