Rough idling and hard starts

95 Blazer, 150k, 4x4 with CPI. Engine related its been good, there's another thread related to the front suspension, but after a 5 hr drive on the interstate on Friday after work, I pulled in the drive and once it went into park it started idling rough and shaking. This morning it took an extra couple seconds to start, was idling rough and the Check engine light came on. Once it comes off idle it seems fine. I'm not at my place to read the code, but I was going to stop at an auto parts store and get it read. I haven't had any engine problems recently, I replaced both 02 sensors last summer, and in the past have had EGR problems so with my Rock Auto order tonight I've got an EGR gasket in there too. Any other suggestions as to what might be the problem(s) here?

Re: Rough idling and hard starts

Well after a trip to the local autozone to get the code read, it said P1406 or ERG Valve Pintle stuck, so I picked up some throttle body cleaner and the EGR gasket so when I get back home tonight I hopefully can pull it off and clean it up. Is it worth it to go ahead and pay the $105 for a new EGR off Rock Auto, or could something else be causing the fouling in the EGR?

Just give it a good cleaning and inspect your ERG for carbon chunks. Ensure that the Pintle moves freely and closes completly without any restrictions. Reinstall with new gasket and let us know how things went.

Re: Rough idling and hard starts

After getting it back to my garage I was able to get the EGR off and the pintle was stuck in roughly the half open position. Cleaned off the old gasket, cleaned it up with throttle body cleaner and got all the crap out, and after a few choice words and some encouragement I was able to get it back installed. Fired up and idled fine, I didn't have time to take it out but it should be fixed, thanks for the help guys and I'll let you know if anything changes.
