RWD to 4WD

Hello,
Can you convert a 2wd to 4wd? And if so, how hard is it to do? Let me know asap.
Thanks

Re: RWD to 4WD

Cheaper to buy a used 4x4...IMHO. There are a lot of used 4x4 out there that have never been off-road.

Now a days, I only use it off road once a year at the Jeep Jamboree. (Gotta work, you know.... Plus petro prices are prohibative for just doing it.)

However, you can put a small lift kit on it and some larger, more aggressive tires on it for some trail running and better looks.

With all that said....Yes...You can do it, because it is the same body. You should have a donor wrecked 4x4 model of the same year build to make it easy.

It all comes down to time, money, and your enthusiasm in a large project. I have done such things in my younger days.... but you will never recover all the money and labor that you have put into it.

Re: RWD to 4WD

Eh, it's really not that bad. Just figure out the money and see if it's cheaper to buy a new one instead. It's just turing bolts really.

You'll need driveshafts front and rear, 4wd transmission, transfer case with shifter, shifter linkage, and the little sign with 2hi 4hi 4lo on it, and a front axle with a matching gear ratio to your rear end. This list might not be complete but it's what I can remember off the top of my head.

Search naxja.org, jeepforum.com, jeepin.com, sisoffroad.com, cherokeeforum.com, and google it. Should be a few good writeups floating around.
