01 brake rattle

New to the forum ... First Post

Just picked up my first impala ... an 01 with 30,000 miles , no rust (a miracle here in New England )
I have not yet picked up a service manual but plan to soon . I just changed a warped front rotor and while I was at it I added a new set of brakes . All went well , brakes work well , nice and smooth but now I have a rattle sound that seems to be coming from the left front , same wheel I changed the rotor on. My best guess is that its the outboard pad , but I am not 100% sure . I cleaned up the caliper pretty good before I installed the pads. I did not use any grease where the pads sit in the calipers and I did not re grease the bolts that hold the caliper to the caliper mount. They seemed very clean and still had a good amount of grease left on them . I have since taken it apart and checked everything . All seemed ok but I still get the sound when I ride over rough spots or small dips .

I never touched the upper and lower clips that the brakes pad set in , maybe I need to bend them up a little to tighten up the pad .

I am pretty sure I have the pads properly placed . The outboard pad has a little "tang" that faces the center of the wheel . I think this tang to let you know when the pads are getting thin . The inboard pad does not have this tang if I have situated them correctly .
The only other thing I noticed was that there were no clips holding the old rotor in place . You know those little washer like clips that just sort of hold the rotor in position when the tire is removed . I dont think they are very important but just thought I would mention it.
I have since seen sets of pads for this car that come with shims maybe thats all I need . Any help would be greatly appreciated .

If this topic has been covered sorry for bringing it up. the search feature for this forum in not working at the moment. Thanks .

Did you ever get this taken care of? I have the same rattling sound coming from my left front. When I had my tires done in April the shop told me I needed new wheel bearing/hub assemblies, but I am not entirely convinced. I plan to check this out in more detail tomorrow night (and I still may need hubs), but if you found that there was a brake problem making the noise, I will look that way while I have the wheel off.
