Floppy Armrest - 2000 GMC Safari

Anyone else have issues with armrests that are broken in their Astro/Safari? I have two that rotate 360 degrees in my Safari and was wondering if they would be difficult to fix?

I purchased this vehicle about 2 weeks ago, and this site by far is the best source for information.

Thanks in adavance.

Re: Floppy Armrest - 2000 GMC Safari

Are the seats factory original, or is this a conversion van? If it's a conversion van, the armrests must be removed from the seat and disassembled to repair them. It usually involves a welder to repair them. To remove the armrest, push in at the pivot point, (requires a lot of force) and rotate the armrest backward, and pull it straight off the seat. Remove the upholstery, (usually un zips) and you'll see what broke.

Thanks for the reply master. To answer your question, they are factory seats, not of the conversion van variety. I tried pushing the armrest in with no success, guess I need to hit the gym. I'll try again tonight and see if I have any luck.

The gym won't help if they're factory seats I'm not certain how yours come apart, (without looking at them), but I can tell you factory armrests do not push in and turn to remove. They might be attached inside the seat back or there might be a cap/plug on the armrest that needs to be removed to access the pivot bolt with a socket.
