Having an exhaust pipe perforated affects the performance of the engine/car in anyway?
Or in the other hand it is only a nuissance that does not need immediate attention.

It is very bad from a safety point of view. The exhaust can get into the passenger compartment (depending on the point of the leak). Does not affect engine performance.
