okay! The vehicle drives fine, but when idling for long period of time it starts to run hot. the water pump is brand new has been replace when the timing belt was changed out. :screwy:

Fan clutch might be getting weak. Or radiator is plugging up with gunk, can happen after a while.

If that's your original radiator....that's most likely the culprit.

Also, how old is the thermostat? If it was replaced, make SURE it is an OEM therm and not aftermarket....if it has not been replaced...replace it.. it's very easy on the '96/97 Rodeo's.

:) All of those were my option that I was gonna try and do starting first with flushing the system and then replacing the thermostat and if that don't help then move on to the fan clutch, but I just needed some varification on the areas first thanks and I will keep you posted og the resaults. :)

Well so far the only thing I replaced was the thermostat and no problem has ariased so I beleive that took care of it. thanks all for the input

If that's an automatic, take heed in smelling your ATF fluid, when the engine overheats on these beasts, so does the tranny.
