Exclamation Trans shifts hard

On occasion the transmission in my '05 Impala will shift hard. So hard you can feel it inside the vehicle. When it occurs I will pull the vehicle to the side of the road and shut off the engine for a few moments. When I restart it the tranny will shift just fine. I had the car serviced at the local dealer. They replaced the filter and the fluid. I had it fixed today. Will not know if the tranny will be ok until tomorrow. What could had gone wrong for the car to do this? It has 64200 miles on her.

your pressure control valve is bad, pcv,it's about 4-5 hour job at the dealer around 800 plus for the part,do you have warranty,it will store a hidden code in the computer that will not light up the service engine soon light and it is a p1811 code,i just had mine done .when it would act up and shift hard i would shut mine off also and it would correct it,what you have to do is the next time she does it don't shut here off and go to the dealer or a tranny shop so they can see what you are talking about .......
John
they should be able to scan fora hidden p1811 code

sounds like a solenoid sticking maybe the fluid change will help... if it was sticking dealer could have scanned it, but not for free....how does the fluid look is it a clear red or cloudy browish red....use white cloth on tranny stick level check is there any gray color....

Yeah if fluid change don't help it's probably the solenoid.

Re: Trans shifts hard

First things first like j cAT says, check the fluid, if there is no discoloration, the dealer should be able to scan the solenoid, perhaps its sticking. Im willing to bet that its the solenoid though, if I remember correctly my brother in laws had a similar problem. Good Luck, let us know how it turns out!

Re: Trans shifts hard

Well all thanks for the input. Have not been to the the forum for a while. The solenoid was replaced at the cost of 800.00. Tranny still acts up once in a while but only in cold weather. Maybe I need to move furthur south. Thanks all for your help!
