2002 Cavilier AC clicking problems.

My AC acts up from time to time when I come to a stop with the AC running, something clicks a bunch of times and the RPM meter goes crazy then it settles down. Sometimes it jerks the car a little bit and when I take off it runs fine. Then I come to a stop and it clicks and jerks again.

Is it the compressor? The air is still extremely cold. Anyone know? TIA.

Re: 2002 Cavilier AC clicking problems.

The clicking is the A/C clutch cycling in and out.works off of low side pressure switch.when the low pressure gets to about 34psi compressor turns off. rapid cycling is normally low refigerant charge.you should have this checked first. could also be cycling on high pressure switch. if the condensor fan is not operating, you could have enough air flow cruising to cool the condensor and as you slow to a stop the head pressure increases and cycles the compressor off. and of course a bad connection can also cause the problem,so chech all the wire connectors.

Thanks! IT may be low on coolant? That could make sense seeing as nobody added anything to the car in years..
