I've been able to obtain show quality finishes with rattle cans!
I use DUPLICOLOR and KRYLON......here's why:
Sand all your parts smooth and dull, using 400 grit sandpaper "WET".
Prime with 2 good coats of DUPLICOLOR primer and let dry over night.
Wet sand all your parts again with 600 grit paper. Clean well with "Simple Green".
Spray 2-3 coats of your DUPLICOLOR paint and ddry over night.
Sand the paint with 600 grit WET again, being carefull not to sand through........JUST DULL IT!
Spray all your parts with KRYLON CLEAR ***ENAMEL***!!!
The reason is:the DUPLICOLOR paint is lacquer........gas and oil will literaly DESTROY IT!
The Enamel clear is waaaay more resistant to gas spills, and if you will ride this bike, you WILL spill gas.
Let the enamel cure for at least a month before you put any wax on it. You don't want to trap the vapors as the paint cures.
The clear should flow out nicely, so you don't have to wetsand and/or buff it.......YOU ARE DONE!
Here are a couple pics of my bike, done as described.
