Re: New 02 sensor cables too short
I went to see an Acura mechanic and I think this guy is pulling a fast one on me. I'm a fairly knowledgeable car mechanic myself (I think) and also one of my especialties before retirement is electrical and electronics. First this mechanic said that Bosch 02 sensors will not work. Instead he recommended I get the Japanese made 02 sensors (Denso, NGK or something). Second when I suggested that I do the splicing, he went to say that I should only use a specific type of connector. I have a collection of connectors and shrink and solder but he insisted I use his and for two hours of work he'll do the job for $148.00. I fully understand of the need to make a good connection as I'm dealing with a device which deals in low voltage and sensitive to changes in resistance. I intend to crimp it and then solder it plus the heat shrink. I also intend to install a cable protector although the area where the cable is secured two is pretty much on the fire wall. I've done some research and talked to other mechanics about the prudent need to replace the sensors at around 100K miles. this mechanic said no need to replace the after cat sensor. The concensus from other sources was that both should be changed. So what do you think?
