Hei Distributor

Does Anyone Know If A Chevy Hei Distributor Will Fit Into A Pontiac 400 Motor?

Re: Hei Distributor

The Pontiac has a shorter/fatter distributor body (at the block). Any HEI from a late '74 through '80 Pontiac V8 of any displacement will "fit". Nothing else will. The advance curve in an HEI leaves much to be desired for performance, and can be too "quick", causing detonation or "spark knock". A good distributor guy can "fix" it relatively easily.

What is the application of the Pontiac? I have significant input.
