i have a '97 rally sport, and everytime i start up the car my oil light will come on, and i've checked my oil, the levels are fine, but when i dive for a bit, say a mile or 2 it goes off,

Re: oil light funky

Just because your oil light comes on and your oil level is correct, doesn't mean all is well. I would start with throwing a new sensor in there since their cheaper than a new pump and motor and see if it still occurs. If so, you might want to start looking into replacing your oil pump ASAP.

If it comes down to that, get an oil pump for a 93 cavalier 2.2 and get the melling High volume one. Good stuff right there.

Re: oil light funky

If you have one available to you I would install a mechanical gauge so I could see if there really is an oil pressure problem or a sender/electrical problem.

Re: oil light funky

If you have access to a GM tech 2 yes. I run a mechanical oil pressure gauge after our sunfires shit the bed out of now where under boost 2 years ago. Doesn't hurt to be safe.

Re: oil light funky

above your oil filter, there is a 1/4" NPT plug, remove that with a 1/4" drive ratchet and the oil pressure gauge should be a kit with some hard plastic line and brass fittings. Install the correct fittings into the hole in the block with Teflon tape and the Ferrel compression fitting.

Piece of cake.
