Transmission problem

I have a 1997 Chevorlet Cavalier Z24 with a transmission problem. When I put the transmission in drive it kills the motor. I jacked the car up and put in drive and the wheels go. What is my problem?

thanks...

Re: Transmission problem

It's not likely the transmission. More likely, you have an engine problem. Are you running on all 4?

It is running on all four. The engine runs well and has plenty of power.

Any other ideas?

I really appreciate your input...

Re: Transmission problem

Sounds like it could be your TCC Solenoid. This is for torque converter lockup at higher speeds. What happens is the TCC Solenoid shorts out and stays on. It's like trying to start out in high gear.

Hope this might help.

We thought that might be the problem but all solennoids have been replaced.

Any other ideas would be great. I really appreciate your knowledge and response.

Thanks...

Re: Transmission problem

Let's get this where it belongs in the Cav forum.

Sorry but I posted the same thing a few weeks back in the Cav forum and no one responded. That's why I posted here.

Would the TR switch being out of adjustment cause the transmission to lock in high gear?
