92 Acura Legend Tranny change

Hello,
Just joined today! Lot's of great info and I look forward to participating.
I am seeking some advice and info. Last month, my wife's 92 Acura Legend lost its transmission (for the second time). This has been a great car over the years (currently has 210K miles on it). Somewhere around 140K the first tranny failed and I had a local shop rebuild it. Now I am a "weekend worrior" when it comes to automotive repair....I like to work on "hobby" cars, I have had a few 6o's muscle cars over the years that have kept me busy. However, when it come to my prime vehicles I'm willing to spend some buck here and there for the convenience of having a professional shop do it... Mostly because of time. This was particularly true wifes Acura, since I really didn't want to mess with it.
As I said, last month the rebuilt tranny gave out, and I finally caved and bought her the Honda Pilot she was eyeing. She wanted to just donate the Acura, but I am resisting. Between 190K and 200K, I had alot of work done on the car with hopes of it lasting to at least 250K miles. This included a second, new timing belt change, a complete brake job all aorund, new struts, and a "tune-up". We bought this car new in 92 and have have taken real good care of it over the years, so I am a bit partial to it.
The tranny rebuild put me back $1800 last time and given the miles, I certainly don't want to dump that into it again. So I am thinking about doing this myself. However, I don't want to mess with the acutal tranny rebuild, but want to rather swap in a complete, low mile used tranny. I have seen numerous complete transmissions for sale on eBay for around $180-200 (plus another $150+for shipping). All together a total of $400 - $500 would be something that I could see dumping into it and hopefully drive it as a commuter car for another 30K miles.
So my project would be to pull out the complete transmission and put back in one of these used (eBay) transmissions. Any suggestions or opinions on doing this?
Thanks!

Re: 92 Acura Legend Tranny change

make sure you match the trans code and get the converter that was with the used trans too its always better that way

Re: 92 Acura Legend Tranny change

wiseguy01,
Thanks for replying. Can you explain a bit more about the converter(?)
Maybe I'm being a little naive here, but I was assuming that if the whole transmission assembly came from the same year and make then it would be a drop-in replacement. (have a quick look at eBay searching under "acura transmission" to see what I'm talking about).
If not, then would there be a VIN compatability issue to look out for?
Thanks!
