Remote starter

I am interested in purchasing a remote starter for my 2002 ext cab 1500. What would you guys recommend? Is it possible to get one that will work my power locks as well? I would prefer to have only one FOB on my keychain if that is possible. How much can I expect to pay for something like this? Are they hard to install? I have a fairly decent knowledge of automotive wiring. Thanks for the help.

Re: Remote starter

I've done over 85 installs- I use Crimestopper which has worked very good for me- the RS-900 VII is on Ebay right now for under $50 and does all what you want and more...you will need to bypass that Passlock II - I usually use the GMattII also found on ebay for $7.99 - there are many more expensive models- and some with and without alarms- but I have found this unit very reasonable and extremely affordable.....

Re: Remote starter

I use python, somethin with a long range is always good. They make starters with door locks just makes install a little longer. Get the wire harness for the model of remote start you get for your truck, makes the install a lot easier. Python runs with all harnesses and all about 250.00 - 300.00. I would never get another car or truck without a starter.

Re: Remote starter

How much wiring is involved in this? Am I looking at a few hours on a weekend or is it going to take a few days? What are the instructions like? Do they give wire colors and locations or are they more general and just say things like "splice into ignition wire?"

Re: Remote starter

My first one took me over six hours--the instructions will NOT be vehicle specific- but there are many resource online to get you the proper wiring descriptions of your particular vehicle-- which is about the easiest one to do there is BY THE WAY....I can now do that truck in about an hour and a half- because I have all the wire colors memorized- ......If you can solder, you can do it......
