70 nova

i bought a 70 nova ss? it has powersteering non power brakes 12 bolt posi 400 turbo . the best part is the big block it has . bench seat standard interior . only option is the powersteering .my question is the title weight on the title says 3600# could this be a true big block car

I would say that it sounds like it. I know that in a Nova book I have, it gives a weight of 3084 for a 72 Nova with a small block in it. The big block, bigger 12 bolt rear and the heavier TH400 would definately account for the extra 500 lbs.

PC PROBLEM "70NOVA" HERE NEW ACCOUNT. NOVA71 THANKS . THE VIN IN DASH WAS NO HELP OTHER WEB SIGHT SAID NUMBERS IN VIN FOR V8 IS 11427 11-CHEVY 4-V8 27-2DOOR AND SO ON . MY VIN GOES 11327 SHOULD BE 6 CYLINDER BUT 3600# IS LISTED ON TITLE. TAG ON FIRE WALL READS 11427 EVERY OTHER NUMBER IS EXACT WITH TITLE. IS THIS COMMON ?
11:1 COMPRESSION , SQUAREPORT HEADS ,SOLID LIFTERS ,REALLY COOL PEICE. IF RARE NEED TO KNOW SO I DONT MINI TUB IT. 9INCH TIRES ALL THAT FIT. ANY HELP APPRECIATED.

Ok, so let me get this straight, The vin on the paper title is 11327 and the vin tag on the firewall under the hood is 11427. What is the first 7 digits of the vin on the dash that you can see at the base of the drivers side windshield. Should be 6 numbers followed by 1 letter.

Also, on the tag on the firewall right below the line that has ST70 11427........
What is on the line underneath? It should start with TR.... and end with ....PNT.
This is your trim and paint codes. I might be able to check those out and let you know the info on them.

Did you just buy it? Sounds like a sweet ride regardless of whether it's original or not. I take it the block is a 396.

paper title and dash tag read 113270W------ . firewall tag reads 114270W------. tr 731 pnt 45 every number match except 3rd digit . yes just last year. 402 dated 1-6-70 heads also same date . 3600 pound title weight is bothering me .awful heavy for alight weight car. car is from south extremely clean .i dont want mini tub if its rare . also has very old chevrolet special equiptment stickers on vent window.

Ok, from what I can tell, your trim is black vinyl bench seats and the paint code is green mist. On your cowl tag under the hood there should be a build date code. It should be right below the TR letters and should be 2 numbers and a letter. What is it? Also, the engine block on the passenger side at the front of the head there should be a flat pad with a code on it. What is that as well?

under hood tag reads 01D . when i bought it the engine was broke, i had no clue it could have been original. when i had the block machine we decked it. did try to contact original owner he has since passedaway. did find out he was an engineer at chevrolet ,the big surprise was he worked at willowrun,his son said i am third owner. he said his dad bought the car to go racing with,to replace a 66 malibu he was running.his son is my age (43) remembers his dad bringing car home,said he thinks it was a 396 car but not possative

The 01D would indicate 01=January and D=4th week. Your engine is January 6 1970 which would make it very possible that it is the original engine. I read somewhere that the last 6 digits of the vin should be stamped on the block. I'm not 100% sure where, but probably on the flat pad at the front of the block. Probably gone now from getting it decked.

Did you try to find the build sheet for the car. Sometimes the build sheet gets tossed in the car somewhere during assembly. I've heard that quite often they are underneath the back seat. The back seat bottom pops out quite easy. You might want to check there. That is where mine was. However, it was ripped in two and only half was there. I also heard that sometimes they are on top of the gas tank I would definately try to look for it. If you could find it , that would tell you the options the car came with and if it is an original SS396 you would see either L34 or L78 on the build sheet.

Although that 11327 vin has me stumped as well. The cowl tags under the hood have been known to be wrong. Even mine doesn't match much the same as yours. Mine says 11427 under the hood and 11327 on the dash and title. However mine was a 6 cyl car and also a willowrun car LOL. The only other possibility I can think of is that maybe all the SS396 drivetrain got swapped to a 6 cyl car. But even that doesn't explain the 3600 lb weight on the title And also if what you say is true about the original owner working for GM and buying it to race, I would say a 396 Nova would be a good chioce!
