Looking to buy a 2001 outbackescort lx 02-24-2008, 03:39 PM Are they any good? I found and 01 outback for $8000. It is a 5spd manual. And it has 108,166 miles on it. Is this to many miles?:) bertmaster2000 02-25-2008, 04:25 PM i bought my wife a 2001 eddie bauer edition one year ago. she has put 13k miles on it since then with zero problems. her car has the 6 cylinder 3 liter engine, which has an excellent track record. i highly recommend either the eddie bauer or "vdc" editions of the outback, but mainly because they come standard with a 6 cylinder engine and some creature comforts like leather and dual moonroofs. i recommend against buying any outback with the 4 cylinder engine given the high frequency of headgasket and "piston slap" problems. i own a 1997 outback with a 4 cylinder and recently put $3K into it after the headgasket(s) failed. in my case i knew this was coming and therefore paid a lower price for it when i bought it used several years ago, but it still stinks to go through the high cost and headache...Never again will I buy a 4 cylinder subaru! bertmaster2000 02-26-2008, 02:17 PM whoops, i just realized i referred to my wife's car as an eddie bauer edition...it is an LLBean! jg09 03-28-2008, 11:51 AM Hey, same situation here. Found a 2001 Outback Limited (with the EJ25 motor), fully loaded, 110k miles. Listed at the dealership for $11,000, but for its age and paint condition (a fair amount of scratches), I probably won't pay more than $8,000 for it. bertmaster2000 05-12-2008, 07:36 PM jg09, so did you buy the outback with the 3.0? If so, i hope you are happy. my wife sure likes hers, and i like her car waaay more than my clunky old 1997 with the I4. jg09 05-13-2008, 03:37 PM I ended up going with the four cylinder. The reason I made the decision? WAY more aftermarket upgrades, plus I can swap in WRX engine parts. :) I'm really happy with mine. My girlfriend loves it, too. She likes how it's a "practical, family car" (uh-oh, sounds like she's got some big plans...). jg09 05-13-2008, 03:39 PM vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
