Secondary Air pump Code P0410

I found alot of great info on this code that I'm getting on my 02 Grand Prix(3.8L), but I want to know if there's a way to bypass the air pump, since it doesn't affect the performance of the car. I need to get my car inspected by the end of the week and it won't pass because this is an emission device. I rather not spend money on the pump if I don't have to.

you realize that disabling any emissions systems is illegal. Not to mention that when you go to sell or trade off the car, the dealer will make you sign a paper that says all your emissions devices are in tact.

Actually no I didn't think about it, but from everything that I read this air pump is a poorly designed device that is in a bad location and will most likely fail even after I replace it. I don't feel like wasting money.

Re: Secondary Air pump Code P0410

Tblake raises a good point and according to your profile you are in New York state which is a green state and follows California LEV emissions standards. The air pump is required and there is no legal way to bypass it. Plus the PCM module would need custom programming to inhibit any secondary air pump emissions DTCs and inhibit air pump operation.

GM has TSB out on this issue which calls for a plastic shield kit to protect it from water intrusion and prevent premature failure. It is in a bad location.

Wouldn't happen to have a pic you could post or PM me? I'm curious as to where the pump is located at on the engine.

Do you have the NC8 emissions option? If you do it is located on a plate bolted to the frame in front of the driver's side front wheel well. No pics since I don't have one or that option. The pump itself is electric and you should hear it run when it is commanded to operate.
