2001 Grand Prix GT question

1 when i driving above 50 or 60 MPH i can feel the car shaking and this shake seems from the passenger side(maybe from passenger side front wheel) .i did tire balance last week, but i can still feel some shake at high speed. This shake is more obvious especially when the road condition is good.
2 sometimes i can hear some noise when turning, after a few miles this noise will dissappear when turning, but ASB light will be on
What's prblem with my car? thanks!

BTW: does anyone know where i can find a service manual of this car?

question #1- sounds like you have a belt out in the tire. you may want to look into buying new tires. another thing is you may have a bent rim (but they would have known right away when they balanced your tires)

question #2- there are a number of things that could make noises while turning. (tie rod, cv joint, ball joints, and the ever so common problem on GP's...the lower control arm bushings) but I'm not sure why the sound would go away after a few miles, and throw the ABS light. i would go to auto zone or something and have them pull the codes from the ABS system. come back and let us know what the code is that is pulled. we may be able to help you out more then...

now another thing...these two problems could be affiliated. when you had the tires balanced...did you bring the car to a shop? because they would have told you if you had a belt out in the tire. when you look at the tire, can you see bumps on the side? one thing to keep in mind is that when a tire is out of balance, you will only feel it at lower speeds...around 30 or so. once you start feeling shaking at higher speeds...you either have something wrong with the tire...or something wrong in the frontend (this is why i am saying the two problems may be affiliated)

**edit** as for the owners manual...my first guess would be a local GM dealer.

I do not think Autozone has a ABS capable scanner. You should have your car scanned with a ABS capable scanner even if the light comes on and off, the codes will still be stored. You may have a hub/speed sensor going bad, keep us posted...

There is a relevant and current discussion concerning service manuals that you can review. See the link below.

That is correct Paul as far as them scanning for free. The odb-ii scanners Autozone uses are not ABS capable so I agree. However they are now selling an Actron ABS capable scanner only but the cost is way too high for what it does and for most auto owners. For GM Mark VI and GM/Bosch 5.3 ABS systems the best scanner to use is a GM Tech II scan tool but that is GM dealer service.

Re: 2001 Grand Prix GT question

Thanks for clarifying and expanding on that Bob. I meant Autozone's free scanning service but didn't type that in my initial reply.

Re: 2001 Grand Prix GT question

thank you guys. so you mean autozone can not scan code for ABS error, right?
And i'm wondering if there are a lot differences between 2001 GP and GP before 2001. Because I saw many service or repair manuals, most of them say the manuals cover like GP from 1989 to 99 or 1985 to 2000 etc. I did not find manuals that cover GP after 2000. if i buy a manual cover GP before 2000 will it be hlepful when i repair my GP 2001?

Re: 2001 Grand Prix GT question

The Haynes manual for 88-99 Grand Prix's doesn't cover much on the 97-up body style so it would be almost useless on your 01 model. Your shaking problem sounds like either a bad hub bearing or tie rod on that side.
