Angry 2006 RAV4 Traction Control Problems

Does anyone know how to Disable the Wonderful Traction Control System on our 2006 RAV4? This thing is worthless in the mud or snow since it kills the engine RPMs until the wheels stop spinning. By then you've lost all momentum and end up getting stuck everytime
It's like Toyota is saying You're too stupid to drive in this stuff so we're gonna park your butt right here ... right now ... HA!!!

And that stupid Idiot light and Chime is the most annoying thing ever!!!

Re: 2006 RAV4 Traction Control Problems

Are you correct. Useless, a joke that we paid a lot of $$ for. The following procedure will disable the system untill you have turned the auto off and re-started. For additional info try http://rav4world.com/forums/index.php A great site.

Must be done in 30 seconds

1. Make sure the car is in Park and the parking brake is disengaged before you start the car.
2. Start the engine.
3. Engage the parking brake.
4. Fully depress the brake pedal and then release.
5. Fully depress the brake pedal and then release.
6. Disengage the parking brake.
7. Fully depress and hold down the brake pedal.
8. Engage the parking brake, then disengage it (while holding down the brake pedal).
9. Engage the parking brake, then disengage it (while holding down the brake pedal).
10. Release the brake pedal.
11. Engage the parking brake.
12. Fully depress the brake pedal and then release.
13. Fully depress the brake pedal and then release.

When “Check VSC” is displayed in the multifunction display along with the “Trac-off” icon indicator, you’ll know that you have successfully completed the procedure.

Re: 2006 RAV4 Traction Control Problems

why don't they just have you plug in an x-box controller to the OBD port on the lower dash and hit the controller keys in this order...
Up, Up, Down, Up, X, Y, X, Left, Right, Left, Down, Left Trigger, Right Trigger and then X, Y, B, A, B, Y, X, Right Thumb, and Left Thumb and presto!
Traction Control is off untill you hit the brake pedal then you have to do the whole process twice for it to work again.

Sorry Just kidding could not resist. Even my 2005 Chevy sedan has a Traction Control button that can be turned on or off at anytime. Don't know what Toyota was thinking on that one.

X-BOX, that's funny. The procedure is tedious, though. A game controller would be fitting. lol!
