2002 Silverado Starts but will not idle

The engine will start and run if I hold the rpms up but as soon as I let the engine go to idle it dies. Any ideas?

Keith

Edit::::::
This problem occured this morning about 3 hrs ago. I just went back out to see if it would throw any codes and as luck (?) would have it, the dang thing started and idled just fine. I started it a couple of times and all seems ok, HOWEVERE I still want to know whats going on.

Check the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. Remove it and see if it's pluged with carbon. Usually they just go bad and don't get plugged. Plug it back in (leave it off the throttle body) and watch the plunger as the key is turned from off to on (but don't start). It should move in and out.

Also you said you went to check the codes and it started up. Any code will stay in memory (unless cleared with a scan tool) even if it's not acting up at the moment. Check anyway and see if there's an IAC or any other codes.

When you buy something... a bottle of pop for example, who gets the profit from it and what do they do with it? Maybe your money's going to groups that want to hurt you. I think everyone should do a search for things they purchase regularly "____ supports". Might just find a company you won't buy stuff from anymore.

I've removed my IAC twice and it was only dirty at the plunger seat area used some wd40 to clean no carb cleaner and the idle control was more responsive....

leaking intake gaskets can also cause this once in a while because not enough air is going though the maf sensor then will usually run normal after
the engine warms up. also make sure the throttle blade is clean(they get gummed up& cause idle problems). good luck
