rear wiper problems

2001 venture. rear wiper works sluggishly if at all. You can turn on wiper and when nothing happens you can get out and help wiper along and then it starts working, but slowly. Is the motor weak and needs replaced or can disassemble motor clean and lube. Has any one else had this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. KO

Re: rear wiper problems

Yes my 99 Venture did the same thing before it gave up for good. I believe it's a fairly common problem.

Re: rear wiper problems

There is a plastic gear inside that could have stripped or worn teeth. Unfortunately you can't buy just the gear, you will need to buy the whole wiper module.

Good luck,
Mark

what he said ^^^. there is a plastic gear inside the assembly, driven by a steel worm gear off the motor. I replaced the whole assembly, which is the only way you can. It works fine now. The remanufactured unit is upgraded with a cast gear.

Re: rear wiper problems

I replaced my rear wiper motor back in February 2007. I am not mechanically inclined but found the repair very easy with the assistance of my Chilton (SP?) manual. Took me about 90 minutes to replace. The new motor also had the cast gear.

Did you have any luck fixing your problems? I have the same...rear wiper, no tail lights or brake lights.
Trying to get mine fixed.

Thanks
