Boost options for MR2 MKII

What do you guys recommend for the most efficient boost? I like the look of the supercharged MR2's because they look cleaner int he engine compartment. But would get get more boost out of a single or twin turbo than a supercharger on an MR2 since its only a 4 banger?

Re: Boost options for MR2 MKII

Well in most cases people are usign the 3S-GTE. So lets stick to the 3S-GTE and make it simple since that seems to be the best option or most efficient option.

Re: Boost options for MR2 MKII

if you get a mk2 with a 3sgte:

do you want quick responsive power (but not too much ~300whp?)

or more laggy higher power?

check out the turbo kits offered by ats racing, they're pretty comprehensive.

Re: Boost options for MR2 MKII

I would rather have responsive. 300rwhp would prolly be more than enough. Im looking more to build a car for show. Something ppl slow down to stop and stare, and stop fifteen feet in front of the lights to stop beside me. Thats the car that i really want. But I still want the car to have the balls to pull away from sporty cars like porsche, bmw, maybe lotus even. I dont need 400 or 500 horses.

definately look at the garrett gt28rs kit from ATS. they do an injector/turbo/ecu setup for a good price.

Re: Boost options for MR2 MKII

Has anyone on his site heard of or installed a supecharger on an MR2? ive seen so0me cars on the internet but was wondering on practicle it was? if at all. I dont know why but i just dont like the thought o turbochargers as much. One thin g i hate about turbochrgers is turbo lag.....and i realize u can get around it for the most part with a smaller turbo, and i know u can use 2 small turbos to get more power an be responsive. But still not that sure. Any thoughts are much appreciated

some of the first gen cars came with a supercharger.

the 3sgte is a factory turbo engine. the 5sfe is a factory economy engine that will cause you a lot of headache and walletache if you try to turbo/supercharge it.

if you are looking for more NA power in a mk2, look into v6 swaps. the camry 3.0L v6 bolts up to a turbo transmission and can be used with minimal modification and lots of wiring.
