Are the windows on the coupe the dumbest design you've ever seen? Everytime you open the door the window goes down and then goes back up when you shut the door. This is great except for when you're in cold weather and your windows freeze. That's a ton of strain to put on your window motor each time you open your door.

Not to mention the damage it does to the window / door each time you shut it when the window is frozen.

Does anyone have any insight as to (a) why they designed them like this, (b) what do do when your windows are frozen, or (c) what gets damaged when you shut your door and your windows are frozen.

If they didn't, you wouldn't have a good seal with the closed door. If they didn't do this, you'd be complaining about the wind noise of the vehicle. This is actually common in a lot of the higher end vehicles where the glass seals against the roll cage and not the door frame. You are right though about the wear/tear on the motor. If you keep your vehicle longer than 12-15 years you may wish to have the door opened up and lube the mechanism.

good points.. i'm guessing this is necessary since the window creates the seal w/ the car rather than a frame creating a seal and the window rolling up into the frame.

i'm really just worried that someday its cold out and i'm not going to realize the window didn't go down then shut my door and break my window off. i'll just have to keep my eyes peeled i suppose.

So imagine this... The car is 14 years old, it is just above freezing outside, raining, and you hear a loud pop as the power window mechanism breaks just after you close the door. The glass falls inside the door, shattering... You have to drive for 20 minutes to make a meeting that cannot be rescheduled. Yes, this really happened. I should have known better as it was pretty evident for about a month before this that it was wearing out and binding...

I seen this same option on a porche boxter. Hell if porche has the same feature then you know its for a good reason.
