2000 and up Bonneville steering wheel fix?

Hello, I just thought I would mention this. I have a 2000 Bonneville and at 140,000 miles it developed the common steering noise on sharp turns in parking lots. It's a minor problem, but I don't know if I stumbled on a fix or it's just coincidental. The other day it fixed itself and now the steering is perfect no more noise, not sure how long of a fix it is. This is what I think did it.
I bought one of those fancy steering wheel covers, the engine was off and the steering was turned partially to the left. With the engine off I turned the steering wheel to the right to straighten it out, you know it is a bit hard to turn when off. Then I proceeded to install the steering wheel cover, which they are very tight so I had to force it on, in the meantime putting pressure on the steering wheel in all directions while I install the cover. Well after a few miles of driving, the turning noise stopped, strange. Just thought I would share.
