97 QX4 Front End "clunking" noise

I'm concerned about a noise I hear and acctually feel in the front end mainly on bumpy surfaces. I feel it mainly through the steering column and the floor. It sounds and feels like heavy metal against metal but there is no high pitched metallic sound associated with it. This is a 4X4 with new shocks and struts. Anyone know if this is a fixable problem and if not is it still safe to drive?

Re: 97 QX4 Front End "clunking" noise

Most likely it's the stabilizer links on each side. It happened on my 97 Pathy, real easy job to replace them. The ball joint in the link falls apart from wear and the thing just bangs around on itself over bumps. It's pretty annoying but it's not all that unsafe.

You can get them at any auto parts store. The whole job took me an hour.
