Keyless entry programming killed my power locks

We bought 2 extra remotes for the keyless entry and then programmed them. I go to work, come home and my mother says that they didn't get to work, in fact my original remote quit working also.. but now on top of that none of my power locks work, the button on the doors on the inside of the car wont unlock/lock the car.. i have to unlock/lock with the key or do it manually from the inside. I searched the internet and can't find anyone with a similar problem, i found keyless entry not working and locks not working but not anything where one caused the other to quit.

Re: Keyless entry programming killed my power locks

did you check them right after you programmed them? if they worked once or twice, i might be inclined to think that its just a coincidence your power locks went out right after you programmed other remotes. I know, one hell of a coincidence, but remotes don't just unprogram themselves.

And I have to make the assumption that the remote unlock system would not affect your power locks if it went out...that would just be a terrible design. On the flip side, if power locks go out, your remotes would no longer work since there is no power to unlock with.

Re: Keyless entry programming killed my power locks

They didn't work at all. The original remote worked till the other two were trying to be programmed, i read something on the net that when you program the remotes that it erases lost remotes... so my assumption is that it puts out a new code so the one that worked before programming doesnt work any more... but after they were tried to be programmed the electric locks dont work. Without electric locks the remotes can't be programmed. A guy i know said it might be the power lock module or something with the comptuer of the car.. but my step-dad has a friend that is a certified Toyota mechanic and is stumped with my problem... maybe it is something to do with the computer part and when we tried to program the remotes it overwritten something that told the locks to work..

Did you check fuses?

I had a similar problem with my aftermarket alarm. It appeared I had to reprogram ALL remotes at the same time since the alarm module rewrights in it's memory all the remotes that send their signal code to the module.

Good luck,

Sam
