94 1.9 escort roller lifter oil hole

in reassembling the head my manual said to insert the lifters with the white dot opposite the oil hole in the lifter hole in the head. my problem is the white dots are no longer on the lifters. one side of the lifter has a pin sized oil hole to fill it thru. should this hole be on same side as the hole in the head or opposite?..desperate..

Re: 94 1.9 escort roller lifter oil hole

it should be on the opposite side so the oil has to flow around the oil grove in the lifter making a seal & alowing the lifter to stay pumped up. if you line up the hole with the head the oil will run back into the head & the lifter will fail. I had this problem on one lifter & compaired it to 3anothers in the head. The Haynes manual even tells you the wrong way!

Re: 94 1.9 escort roller lifter oil hole

wolfe, thanks for the info on the lifter. it makes sense to let the oil run around the groove before it enters the lifter fill hole.
much obliged
