Re: 97 Tahoe P1345 Service Engine Code....
It means the dist rotor pointing is not set dead on with the spark plug terminal.
You will need to find a good engine capable scanner trhat will read the camshaft retart setting and adjust the dist to read as close to 0 degrees
as you can get it. if reading over -3 or +3 camshaft retard it will set the code.
Has the dist cap or rotor or dist been replaced latley on it or how long has the light been on?

Had a tune up done bout 5 months ago. Dist. cap , rotor and wires plugs all that sht was done. But its ran fine since then . No lights or anything. Just all of a sudden on Saturday when I started it the check engine light was on. Been on since then. So maybe I need to have the engine Timed?

Re: 97 Tahoe P1345 Service Engine Code....
The engine timing is not adjustable.
Only the dist camshaft retard that has nothing to do with the timing.

Re: 97 Tahoe P1345 Service Engine Code....
The "cam retard or offset" mode is kind of like a "base" timing mode. This mode puts the CMP (cam position sensor) and CKP (crank position sensor) in sync with each other. The P1345 is telling the VCM that the 2 are out of sync.
Possible causes.
1. A loose CMP in the dist.
2. Excessive play in the timing chain and/or gear assy.
3. Dist installed wrong. One tooth off in either direction.
4. Loose rotor on the dist shaft. If the rotor turns on the dist shaft the dist needs to be replaced.
5. Loose or missing dist hold down bolt allowing the dist to turn.
The timing can only be checked and set with a scanner that is capable of getting into the cam "offset" or "retard" mode. Timing should be 0 +/- 2 degrees with engine rpm's at or above 1000.
If engine speeds are varying the CKP could be the problem.

Re: 97 Tahoe P1345 Service Engine Code....
I think I have the same problem on my 1996 Tahoe, though I haven't taken it in to see if the P1345 code is coming up. About 4 times this past year, we've driven somewhere, run an errand for an hour or so, come back to the car and it won't crank or start. No clicks, no noise from the engine - nothing. After sitting there for 40 minutes, I'll try it again and it fires right up. Just put in a new battery and they checked alternator, starter, etc. - all good. Is this the crank shaft alignment problem, or just a bad ignition switch?

Welcome to AF, usually some connection between the ign and the starter, not the sensor here.

Re: 97 Tahoe P1345 Service Engine Code....
I recently purchased a 99 Suburban that is giving me a fit. I changed the intake manifold gasket and had to play with the position of the dist. to get it to run right after that. I took the truck on a 1200 mile trip after that and about 120 miles from home it just started to miss again. The next day drove it and it ran fine until it went closed loop then it ran BAD, really missed. It seems to run a ok until it goes closed loop then sometimes not too bad, sometimes really bad. But the first question is; I have read it until I can repeat frontwards, backwards in my sleep the procedure for setting the camshaft offset retard dwell, but have yet to see mentioned one time a scan tool that will read this. Is the dealer the only place to get this done? Quote" the camshaft offset has to be set blada blada blada.... but no, use this scan tool to do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would love to at least know how much I have to spend to own one that will do it, I am considering buying one anyway. Any help??
Thanks, HG

Welcome to AF
It is best to start a New thread/post with your problem.
Saves hyjacking someone elses post.
Dealers or good repair shop have the good scanners.
High end Engine capable scanners are required to set the camshaft retard.
They start at 3 grand up.
There is a lot of lap top programs out that may do some of it.
Check and ask around.

Re: 97 Tahoe P1345 Service Engine Code....
Sorry, I don't want to hijack the thread. But if I had a nickel for every post I read all over the internet in the last week since I started having this problem, telling me how to set the camshaft offset.....and not one telling me the tool to use, I could buy a new truck!!!!! It got the best of me.
Thanks, HG

Re: 97 Tahoe P1345 Service Engine Code....
Just had this on my '02 Silverado with the 4.3 V-6. The distributor gear was worn pretty bad. The gear was about $60 and had it replaced in less than an hour. The motor had 77,000 miles on it. A GM mechanic friend of mine told me after the fact that its a pretty common problem

Re: 97 Tahoe P1345 Service Engine Code....
Remember after a dist R&R always check and set the camshaft retard with a good engine capavble scanner.
Also when repacing the gear and or dist make sure the gear is set right on dist shaft.
You can get the 180 degrees off which will mess up the none adjustable dist.
